Welcome to

My two goals have been to better understand food borne pathogens, and to train others. This site covers not only our research papers on detection methods, characterization, and virulence studies, but also links to online resources centred around the books that have been published by the team leader Prof Steve Forsythe (Google Scholar URL). Please note this site will be undergoing updating as Prof Steve Forsythe has recently (March 2017) left Nottingham Trent University, and will be building up a portfolio of more independent activities for University courses and industry, as well as continuing as advisor to governmental organisations.

Please take your time to review our publications, and the general areas of work. We can also undertake research contract, consultancy on food microbiology and related areas. We also run three courses on food microbiology, including implementation of HACCP and 'microbial risk assessment', and a new three-day course on 'microbial genomics and bioinformatics'; please contact "" for details.

Our research, then at Nottingham Trent University, was rated 4* in REF2014, and formed part of their Queens Anniversary Award to the University in 2016.

The Information page was revised after the publication of the 2nd Edition of 'The Microbiology of Safe Food', and includes exercises for microbial bioinformatics.
